Join UAH friends in the coastal setting of Larne’s Waterloo Bay to find out about the history of a vernacular cottage, the surrounding area and of the limestone quarrying, a once thriving industry with which the cottage is associated.

We meet at 2, Waterloo Cottages, one of a pair of vernacular cottages overlooking the bay. Dating from the first half of the 19th century, this traditional cottage has been owned since 2000 by Rosie Ford-Hutchinson, who has carefully updated and extended the building whist maintaining its vernacular charm.  An Area of Special Scientific Interest, Waterloo Bay is the site of a variety of fossils and, in 1999, saw the discovery of a Jurassic period ichthyosaur, known locally as the ‘Larne Sea Dragon’. Weather permitting, there will be time to take a guided stroll with Robert Stewart along the Victorian promenade, which follows the route of a 19th century railway. 

**Refreshments:** Choice of glass of wine, tea, coffee, elderflower cordial and shortbread.

**Directions:** Follow the Coast Road (A2) from Larne heading to Ballygally until you see the white promenade railings on the right. After the speed limit signs there is a gap in the railings, where a path leads down the hill to the cottage.

**Parking:** Parking is on the Coast Road. Please note that parking is not available at the venue itself.
